Battle for a Cause

We held the first ever "Battle on the Lanes" at this year's Bowling World Cup. This was a fun team event, that separated selected players into four regions from around the globe where they could battle it out on the bowling lanes. Besides bragging rights, $500 for charity was on the line for the winning squads!

Battle on the Lanes

During the 52nd QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup, we introduced the Inaugural tournament of the “Battle on the Lanes” powered by BES X. This is a team bowling event, where we invited participants of the Bowling World Cup to experience one of the exclusive MAD Games that is only available on QubicaAMF’s BES X, Bowling Entertainment System. Not only were there bragging rights on the line, but the winning team from both the men’s and women’s divisions would receive $500 from QubicaAMF to donate to the charity of the Captain’s choice.

Battle on the Lanes

How do they play?

The goal of the game is for each team to knock down as many pins as they can, while only receiving one frame per turn. Knocking down pins is equivalent to tossing a stone which is hurled at the other team’s castle. Once the castle is completely destructed then the opposing team emerges victorious.

We chose four captains who represented four separate regions around the world: The Americas, Europe, Asia and Middle East/Africa. Each captain then had the opportunity to select bowlers to represent both their Men and Women’s Squads. (Due to the size of the participant pool, the men’s team had 5 members each, and the women had 3 members each)

And the first stone is cast…

The first round of the tournament pitted the Americas vs Asia, and Europe vs Middle East/Africa. The men’s teams were the first to go, and it was a heated battle. Following up later in the afternoon, the women competed in their matches, which were just as exciting! Clara Guerro of the Americas squad shared, “I have never played a game like this before, but I had a lot of fun playing.” After the first round was complete, we had both the Americas and Europe emerging victorious and moving on to the finals the next day.

Captains

Captain, Chris Barnes, told us what a great opportunity it was to experience this new event, and was very appreciative of the fact that QubicaAMF was going to donate to a charity on behalf of the winning team. And after a win for both his men’s and women’s team, it was clear they were certainly having fun! “Battle of the Lanes was built for all ages, and it is great to see people of the highest skills still having fun with our MAD Games,” says Kelly Wilbar, Director of Scoring & Technology for QubicaAMF.

The Finals

The finals were held in-between sessions on Friday at the Bowling World Cup. Competing next to each other at the same time, the men and women’s teams arrived at the lanes ready to become the first winners of Battle on the Lanes. In the end, the men from Europe defeated team Americas, while the women of The Americas were able to overcome a lead by Europe to become the women’s champions.
After the match, Sami Konsteri, Team Europe Captain expressed, “I was very glad to be a part of this fun event, and am thankful for the charity donation on behalf of QubicaAMF.”
