It needed a one game roll off to determine the 8th player to go through to round three of the women’s Bowling World Cup in Wroclaw, Poland.

19-year-old Daria Kovalova of the Ukraine and Sandra Gongora of Mexico tied for 8th on 6075. So a roll off took place and Daria bowled superbly and ran out the winner by 246 to 214. By finishing in the top eight she beats her own best result: she came 14th in 2010.  Daria was overcome afterwards. At one point she thought she had missed the cut but she had to compose herself again for the roll off. Her mother and father are here with her and once she won through all three of them were in tears.

In pole position before the round robin is now Clara Juliana Guerrero of Colombia on 6225, with Li Jane Sin of Malaysia in 2nd and Brittni Hamilton of the USA in 3rd.
Li Jane had the high set of the day with 1877, while Russia’s Maria Bulanova (1832), Caroline Lagrange of Canada – our defending champion – hit 1816, Clara shot 1813 and Cherie Tan of Singapore, runner up last year, hit 1808. Sadly for Cherie that was not enough to get her a spot in round 3.
