Top eight in men’s section now settled

Top eight in men’s section now settled
Again, as with the women, we had an exciting finish to the round of 24. With one game to go, Mykhaylo Kalika of the Ukraine was in 7th, Steve Thornton of England in 8th, and then there were eight players who could, with a good game, have forced their way up.
Juhani Tonteri of Finland had bowled a 300 game in the 7th and looked as if he might repeat that, but he finished with a 278 and 9th place. Oron Cohen came from 10th place with a 279 to snatch 8th place and demote Steve to 10th. And tomorrow Oron will be trying to make it two championships in a row for Israel, after Or Aviram’s victory last year.
Steve said afterwards: “I’ve been lucky enough to bowl in the World Cup four times and this is the third time that I have just missed out on making the round robin. I’m very annoyed with myself!”
At the top of the leader board, Tobias Börding of Germany, our leader since day one, continued his amazing form hitting 1924, though the honour of high set of the day went to Nayef Eqab Jabber of the UAE with 1981 pulling himself up from 22nd overnight to 13th place. Tobias extended his lead to 240 pins over second place. It is now Magnus Johnson of Sweden who is in 2nd, with Chris Barnes from the USA in 3rd.
Other 1900+ sets came from Glen Loader of Australia with 1929 and Juhani with 1915.
