Germany still in the lead in 50th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup

Tobias Börding, a 22-year old from the small town of Puchheim in Bavaria, Germany, is still way in the lead in the 50th Bowling World Cup being held in the Sky centre in Wroclaw, Poland.  His set of 1236 (258, 225, 258, 247 248) was again the highest of the day, with no other player hitting over 1200. His total is now 3677, an average of 245, and over 200 pins ahead of second place.  He explained his feelings afterwards: “I felt good from the very first ball today. I had no problems and that gave me confidence and then I started to have fun as well. Every pin over 200 keeps me in the hunt and takes me nearer the goal.  “But there are another 5 games of qualifying, then 8 in the top 24, then 8 in the round robin, so there is a long way to go and I just need to keep calm”.   Martina Schütz, the German competitor in the women’s event explained further: “He is often so calm that I think he is in his own world!”

Mykhaylo Kalika of the Ukraine (3rd in the Bowling World Cup in Johannesburg in 2011) has moved up into second place after a set of 1154 giving him a total of 3475 with ‘Biboy’ Rivera of the Philippines on 3458.

Apart from Tobias’s 1200+ set, 17 players hit over 1100. The overall average for all the men is 201.37.

High game for the day went to Gergely Kapronczay of Hungary with a 288. Two players had a 279: Juhani Tonteri of Finland and Glen Loader of Australia.
The cut for the top 24 is currently a 213.27 average with Bader Alalshikh of Saudi Arabia in 24th and Ilya Orlov of Kazakhstan and Isi Eskanazi of Mexico both ten pins further behind.

The final set of five games will be played today.
