2010 QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup - LESS THAN A MONTH TO GO!

Less than a month to go!
There is now less than one month before bowlers of the world unite in Toulon, France, from 15-24 October, for the 46th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup.

Over 90 countries have indicated that they will be sending players and most of them have now nominated their participants. Twenty-four of the players so far nominated also took part last year. Among the latest players to be nominated is our champion of 1988 Mohammed Khalifa Al-Qubaisi of the UAE. Mohammed will be making his 15th appearance in the tournament, closing in on the record 16 appearances by Paeng Nepomuceno of the Philippines.

Among those coming will be four former winners of the Sportsman / Sportswomen of the tournament, an award which is voted for by the players themselves:
  • Sue Abela of Malta in 1991
  • Bashar Kalaji of Syria in 2001
  • Beatrix Pesek of Hungary in 2003
  • Nasheeha King of Mauritius in 2006

The Bowling World Cup ‘family’ will be well represented again with Marin Tranier and Samy-Anna Saba of New Caledonia  taking part, the married couple who met at the Bowling World Cup in 2002. This year we will also welcome father and daughter Aurelio and Uliana Grosu who will be playing for Moldova. Uliana reached the top 24 last year, but her father will be competing for the first time.  And an old rivalry will be renewed when Israeli player Or Aviram meets up again with Michael Schmidt  - he was runner up to Michael in 2005 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Television coverage will be provided by local TV network Var TV who have already produced an introduction to the Bowling World Cup.   Go to  http://www.vartv.fr/direct1/ to view the film and to see more of the city and the village where we will all be staying.   Var TV will be working with Eurosport to bring the event to a wider audience.

The refurbished centre was officially reopened on 10th September by Hubert Falco, Mayor of Toulon and Government Minister for Defence with special responsibility for veterans, and Jean-Louis Masson, Mayor of the city of La Garde.  Anne-Marie Board, QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup manager, commented: “We are very grateful  to both M. Falco and M. Masson for all the help they have given us to organise this year’s event.   I hope we will have the honour of welcoming them once the action has started.”
