2009 Melaka, Malaysia

A month to go!

A month to go!

There is now just a month to go to the start of the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Melaka, Malaysia, and we could just be in for a record.

The final qualification tournaments are taking place and the final names are coming in and it looks as if we might equal the record of 95 participating countries as Malta and Morocco have joined the list of participating countries. The record was set in Singapore in 2004.

The latest bowlers to win their way through to the championship are from France and Singapore.  From France will come Thierry Sacco and his sister-in-law Isabelle Sacco. For Isabelle it will be her 5th appearance in the Bowling World Cup; last year she and husband Francois competed Hermosillo. Thierry will be making his 3rd appearance.

Remy Ong from Singapore will be competing for the 5th time and is no stranger to the finals. He came 5th in 2001 in Pattaya, Thailand, runner up in 2002 in Riga, Latvia, and third when the tournament was in his home city. He also came 10th in 2007 in St Petersburg. Bernice Lim will be Singapore’s female competitor, making her first appearance in the event.

Not only do many players return time after time, but this love of the Bowling World Cup also gets passed on to the next generation. Panama will be sending Jonathan Heres, whose father Isaac  took part five times, with a high finish of 11th in 1993.

As usual, QubicaAMF will be running a series of seminars alongside the tournament on lane care, pinspotters and pro shop operation in addition to the very successful bowling centre management school.

Anne-Marie Board, QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup tournament manager, commented: “Our seminars are a very important part of the event and we know how much our customers appreciate both the knowledge they gain and the chance to meet our key staff and to network with each other.”   If you would like to register please contact Anne-Marie – seminar details now available.

A media accreditation form is now available. We would be grateful if you could complete it and return to Anne-Marie Board in advance of the tournament so we can prepare your tournament pass and other documentation.
