More 300s but Sweden still in the lead

The first men’s squad produced high scoring again but no perfect games. The second squad made up for that with three. First, Or Aviram had his second perfect game of the tournament . Then Mykhaylo Kalika of the Ukraine got in on the act. It was his first 300 in this event but he did also bowl the only men’s perfect game we saw last year in Wroclaw. Not to be outdone, Chris Sloan of Ireland, one of increasing number of players to use the two-handed technique, also had his second 300 of this tournament.
All the time, Sweden’s Peter Hellström just carried on bowling smoothly and consistently, finishing the day with the high six-game set of 1518. But he was nearly beaten by Russia’s Alexei Parshukov, who hit 1515 and moved up into second place overall, while Guy Caminsky of South Africa also had an excellent day at the office, finishing with a 1509. Guy now lies in 5th place overall.
In total 15 players shot over 1400 for the six games. The average for all 74 players in the men’s section is 214.49, compared with 199.67 at the same stage last year.
Tomorrow will see the final six games of the qualifying round, and the cut will be made for the top 24. Currently in 24th place is Dmitri Chilkine of Belarus on 4117, with Finland’s Sami Lampo in 25th on 4083.
