Marshall Kent leads for the USA going into second round

The USA’s Marshall Kent heads the leaderboard in the 48th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup as the men’s competition heads into the second round. His score of 4667 (a 233.35 average) puts him 81 pins ahead of Hareb Al Mansoori of the UAE with Mykhaylo Kalika of the Ukraine in third on 4551.

Marshall said: “This is the first time I’ve played this event and I’m really impressed with the way it is organised and with the first class facilities. All the people in the bowling centre are so helpful.”

Newcomer nations to the Bowling World Cup rarely make the first cut, but Oman has done it in the shape of Ghalib Albusaidi in 19th place.

It was a close finish last night to see who would sneak into round 2, with several players in with a shot right up to the last game but in the end Michael Schmidt for Canada, Leonidas Maragkos for Greece and Sergey Andreev for Russia all held off the challenges.

Adam Shrubb of Gibraltar missed out by 12 pins but it was still Gibraltar’s best ever finish, beating their previous 43rd place in 2007. And by reaching the top 24 Croatia’s Mise Mrkonjic has already achieved his country’s best result, beating the previous 36th place achieved in 1995.

The men play a further eight games this afternoon to determine who will go through to the 8-player round robin tomorrow.

All results are available on the Results page and fans can follow their favourite player’s frame by frame scores through the live scores, accessible through the web site.

The tournament is taking place at the Sky Bowling centre in Wroclaw, Poland. The finals will take place tomorrow Saturday 1st December.
