Shayna Ng goes top for Singapore - 2012 QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup, Wroclaw, Poland

 

Shayna Ng, a 24-year-old student from the city state of Singapore took over the lead in the 48th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Wroclaw, Poland today, hitting 1249 over her five games. She is now on a total pinfall of 3551 (236.73 average), 139 pins ahead of England’s Kirsten Penny and a further 10 ahead of defending champion Aumi Guerra.

Shayna already has international medals having won gold in the team event of the SEA championships in 2011 and silver and bronze in the Asian Games. In 2011 her six game total in the qualifying for the singles of the world championships was a record 1601.

Apart from Shayna, six players hit over 1100 today: Heide  Thorstensen of Norway (1149), Janine Gabel of Germany (1146),Milki Ng of the Phillipines (1120), Rebecka Larsen of Sweden (1107), Patricia de Faria of Venezuela (1107) and Krista Pollanen of Finalnd (1103).

The cut for the top 24 players to go forward to the second round will be made after a further five games tomorrow. At the moment, the cut is a 196.13 average, Julia Lam of Macau. She is four pins ahead of Yuka Ooshima of Japan, the youngest player in the women’s section.

The tournament is taking place at the Sky Bowling centre in Wroclaw, Poland. The finals will take place on Saturday 1st December.
