Bowling Center Business Models

What bowling center design do you envision?

There are many options depending on your budget, business objectives, individual tastes, or the market you want to pursue.  And QubicaAMF is the world’s foremost authority for building them all.

Family Entertainment Centers (FECs)

FECs tailor their services to all genders and age groups. They feature a multitude of attractions, such as mini-bowling, arcade games, laser tag, go-carts, bumper cars and video games.  Plus, they often offer child-friendly play areas, and also have facilities for birthday parties, which make a substantial revenue contribution.

Boutique Centers

These centers blend bowling, music and socializing, with food and beverage sales serving as the main profit center. Offering a hip and energetic environment, they frequently cater to young adults and adults. Tenpin bowling and/or mini-bowling dominate the entertainment side, though other attractions are often part of the mix as well.

Hybrid Entertainment Center

As traditional bowling centers start incorporating more attractions, a hybrid concept has emerged, combining elements of FECs.  This model might offer league play part of the week, open play or family entertainment the rest. They might also blend the FEC and boutique business models, including a variety of activities in conjunction with bowling.  Serving as a social scene for adults and young adults, upscale food and beverage sales provide a large part of the revenue.

Traditional Bowling Center

The most common and diverse of all models, bowling is the core business and main source of revenue here—typically about 70% of total income, with tournament, league and open play contributing equally.
Because bowling is so prominent, most offer a limited number of other attractions, such as billiards and video games.  And it’s for this reason that restaurants, if present, get a smaller share of the limelight.  You’ll frequently find a pro shop inside these centers.
